For the prevention of organ rejection in recipients of allogeneic kidney transplants, used in combination with other immunosuppressive medications.
Disease
After an allogeneic organ transplant, immunosuppressant drugs are administered to reduce the risk of organ rejection. These drugs work by inhibiting the production of interleukin-2, a molecule that stimulates the growth and activation of T cells, which play a crucial role in the body's adaptive immune response.
Mechanism of Action
Tacrolimus is a calcineurin inhibitor that suppresses the immune response by inhibiting the activation of T-lymphocytes.
